Uttar Palash- Debidanga

In the end of the year 2018 West Bengal Holy Cross Sisters’ Society  bought 297 Decimal land (3 acres) in Uttar Palash, Devidanga  for the purpose of starting  a School. This place is 5½ kilometer away from the Provincial house Siliguri. In the land there was a small store room type building with 3 rooms. The needed renovation and additions to this building was done converting it into rooms suitable for the school and sisters’ residence. On 14 September 2021, the convent was blessed by Rt. Rev. Vincent Aind, the Bishop of Bagdogra Diocese.

The pioneers of this community are Sr. Clotilda Lepcha and a candidate. In February 2022 Sisters started Lower Kindergarten and Upper kindergarten with very few children.  In 2023 there are 34 students up to class one.

Uttar Palash Convent belongs to Gulma Parish which is about 3 kilometers away. Sisters are actively involved in the parish work like, teaching catechism and Mahila Sangh. On special occasions, they help out with decoration and liturgy. Through House visits, they have a good contact with Nepalese, Bengalis, Bodos and tribals of this area. We hope that by next year a part of the school building will be ready for the classes.
