Statement Nr. 3

During the past two weeks of participation in the General Chapter, I was particularly occupied by reflection on the theological background of the socio-ecclesial context in which Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross carry out their mission. Very valuable experience for me was the discovering the traces of the theology of consecrated life in the reports of the provinces and vicariates, in the lectures and impulses of the moderators, in the plenary discussions and in the group sharing.

In discerning the noticed theological perspectives, I would describe the Congregation in symbolic manner as lungs: left lung and right lung. In spite of many differences, certainly there is something that connects Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross all around the world. There has to be some membrane which unites two parts of lung, some spiritus movens that makes the mission of Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross to be one unity. The General Chapter seems to me as an excellent occasion – a kairos for discovering such membranes.
