Stari Bar, 18 and 19 April 2024

Early in the morning, we set off from Gjakova in Kosovo via Albania to Stari Bar in Montenegro. In terms of weather, we had everything: light rain, wafts of mist, lightly snow-covered mountain ranges, wind and then blue spring skies. The sea and the olive trees form a wonderful backdrop for the region. Here in Montenegro, only 3% of the population are Catholics, 76% belong to the Orthodox Church and 13% are Muslims.

Our sisters have been running the children’s home Teo since 2006. Children between the ages of 2 and 6 are cared for here. Parents appreciate the holistic family concept, which combines school preparation for the child with their own family life. The sisters accept children regardless of national or religious affiliation. The children’s home is financed by donations.

On our arrival, we visited Archbishop Rrok Gjonlleshaj from Bar in Montenegro, who knows Switzerland well from various visits. As a parting gift, he gave us a bottle of the regional olive oil. There was just enough time in the evening for a short walk by the sea: simply marvellous!
