Our Sisters in Croatia

Province Croatia

Right at the beginning of the spread of the Coronavirus in Croatia, the first infections began in the capital, Zagreb. On 22 March, the city was shaken by a violent earthquake. Many people became homeless within a few minutes. The sisters in Zagreb were also affected. Thirty sick and frail sisters had to be brought to the provincial house at Đakovo.

Since the earthquake the younger sisters have been volunteering with Caritas in Zagreb. Together with many volunteers they help to provide warm meals, aid packages and medicine to hundreds of poor and lonely people. Some sisters in Đakovo together with volunteers from the Red Cross are involved in the distribution of medicine, food and hygiene products to lonely elderly and sick people.

Sisters who work in the hospitals and nursing homes have community services that require a lot of energy. The sisters and postulants in Đakovo, as well as the sisters in Bar, participated in the production and distribution of the protective masks. They could distribute about 2000 masks to the needy.
