Simões Filho

The Theodosius community in Simões Filho was reopened in October 2016, after several years of being closed, at the request of the local population. Since 2017, a sister has been running the ‘Centro Esperança SINCRUZ’ kindergarten with two groups. Due to the small size of the building, only about 30 children from needy families can attend the daycare centre each year, which is regretted by the parents. The children gave us some very impressive performances of scenes from the life of Mother M. Theresia.

The three other sisters are involved in pastoral work, visiting the sick and making home visits, and working in the street mission. We were impressed by the active parish life, especially the joy of celebrating the faith together at Holy Mass.

For decades, our sisters have been supporting the former children’s village ‘Cidade da Criança’. Children, young people and some adults from poor families are allowed to attend support courses after school so that they have more opportunities for their future professional and family life.

Before our departure, we had a warm meeting with the local bishop, Dom Dirceu de Oliveira Medeiros. He is grateful for the decades of work our sisters have done in his diocese of Camaҫari.
