The beginnings of the community in Ružomberok are connected with the foundation of our private school that was opened on 1st September 1992. The Secondary School of Nursing ‘Maria Theresia Scherer’ provides education and training for more than 300 students – currently in the field of practical nursing and paramedics (for external students). A lay person has been the principal of the school for two years.
Five sisters are working in the school. One sister is an educational counsellor and works as assistant to the principal. Two other sisters are teachers: Subject teacher and Catholic religion instructor. Compared to the beginnings, the work of the sisters at the school has also expanded to the non-teaching area: one sister is responsible for human resources and another is secretary to the principal of the school. The spirit of our charism of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross and our foundress Blessed Mother Maria Theresia are very much alive in the school.
The sisters are also very active in the large parish of Ružomberok, where they are involved as catechists, communion assistants, in the sacristy and in pastoral work together with women.
