Rajganj Community

A delegation of students awaited us sisters with a Bengali welcome ceremony. We were ceremoniously accompanied from the convent and led to the school. With great enthusiasm and expert guidance, the teachers gave us an insight into the Bengali-Nepali culture and tradition.

We also visited the priests in the parish, who look after the widely scattered Catholic families with great dedication. During tea in the evening, we had an interesting discussion with some Jesuits who also live here in Rajganj.

The sisters have been working at the Holy Cross School in Rajganj since 2010. The school started with 42 students; today there are around 2,000 children and young people between the age of 3 and around 18. The Provincial Leadership and the School Management are  continuously challenged to expand the school. Many of the young people come from poor backgrounds. Many of the parents work in the tea gardens in the neighbourhood.

The community consists of 12 sisters who are involved in the school, the hostel, spiritual counselling and in the house and garden. Together with the sisters, 12 candidates also live here. Some of them attend Holy Cross School, others study at the nearby Jesuit college.
