Life-saving ambulance in Kiziba health facility

The Ulrika health center in Masulita at Kiziba is situated some 40 KM away from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. Over 20 years this has become one of the best health units in the district.

The health center also serves as a referral facility in the community whereby critically ill patients are transferred to other hospitals. They sometimes died or in the case of pregnancy, they lost their babies as a result of the delay in transportation since the health center had no Ambulance. This situation has intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic as the country has been under lockdown for a long time.

The absence of an ambulance caused a lot of inconvenience in the services.  The staff could not carry on the different health facility activities effectively. Given the low income of the Health Unit, they were not able to purchase an ambulance. In this utterly desperate situation, they needed financial assistance in buying a second-hand ambulance to face the challenges. With the support from the foundation Maria Theresia Scherer Ingenbohl the Sisters bought the Ambulance in emergency. It provides also efficiency and effectiveness as a result of reducing the waiting time of critically ill patients to be transported to the referral hospitals.
