Holy Cross Social Service, Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi

The Holy Cross Social Service Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, community was founded in 1980 to care for orphaned and abandoned children, facilitating their adoption both domestically and internationally. Additionally, the community operated a creche for children from low-income families. From 1980 to 2006, the children lived in Mukherjee Nagar before relocating to Dheerpur. After this move, the original house was repurposed for daycare services, housing for sisters studying in Delhi, and pastoral work. In 2017, it became a ‘Common House’ for Holy Cross Provinces in India, with a focus on anti-human trafficking efforts.

Currently, six sisters are there representing all five provinces in India. Sr. Regina Ruzario serves as the National Coordinator for Anti-Human Trafficking for the Indian Provinces and is also the Project Coordinator for AMRAT Talitha Kum, India. She conducts awareness programs on anti-human trafficking and introduces AMRAT Talitha Kum to various religious groups, students, and others. Sr. Cyrilla Toppo leads the Domestic Workers program, while Sr. Manju explores opportunities within the Prerna Community, where the family supports sex work and it is their way of life to earn money . Sr. Eliani Topno and Sr. Josephina Lakra focus on anti-human trafficking initiatives, conducting transit monitoring at railway stations in collaboration with other NGOs. Sr. Ancy George manages various responsibilities within the house.

They also face many challenges while working as part of the other NGOs. They are looking forward to registering their own NGO.
