Fourteen sisters and one pre-postulant live in the Nachbari community. Most of the sisters work in one of the schools located on campus or in the affiliated hostel, which is divided into five houses next to each other. Two younger sisters attend college and the vocational training centre, respectively, and the superior also works at the social service centre.
The vocational training centre (VTI) was founded in 1976. Here, young women and girls from poor rural areas can obtain vocational qualifications in hotel management, secretarial studies and economics. The Montessori training for kindergarten teachers is affiliated with this institute.
Many of the students come from remote villages in Jharkhand and a few from other states. Women have the option of living in the hostel on campus.
For several years now, it has been possible to attend evening college. This enables young people to obtain a diploma in humanities or economics while working.
Around 2,900 children and young people attend Holy Cross School Hazaribag, from nursery school to matriculation at the English Medium School.
The Holy Cross Social Centre has been in existence since 1973. Social workers visit farmers in the villages and teach them about ecologically sustainable cultivation of agricultural products. The aim is to motivate people to use alternative cultivation methods that enable them to achieve better harvests.
