In 2017, the Bettiah Holy Cross Sisters Society purchased a 5.9375-acre plot in Kharant Village, located about 7 kilometers from the Holy Cross Convent in Masaurhi. The local community, comprising of Musahars, Dalits, and Mahadalits, had been eagerly awaiting for the establishment of an English Medium School to provide quality education for their children.
The Provincial team sought approval from Sr. Marie-Marthe Schӧnenberger, the Superior General, and her team to build a Primary School, reflecting their commitment to helping underprivileged children. Plans also include constructing a High School and obtaining CBSE affiliation. On May 1, 2024, the foundation for Holy Cross Primary School Kharant was laid.
On July 3, 2024, the Holy Cross Convent in Kharant was officially opened, coinciding with the feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle of India. Three sisters are part of the convent, and their strong faith and trust in the Lord inspire them to take on new missions, offering care and compassion to everyone they meet. The future plan for the community is to open a new Pre-Primary and Primary School in the academic year 2025-2026. Registration for new admissions will begin in the first week of January 2025.
