Holy Cross Convent, Kanary Dipugarha, Hazaribag

The Kanary Community was founded in 1972. A year later, the sisters started a Grihini school to teach simple tribal girls and school dropouts so that they could provide their families with basic knowledge and skills as well as hygiene measures. Today, the number of girls has declined, but the mission continues.

In collaboration with the central government, the sisters started a project called Krishi Vigyan Kendra in 1985. Through this project, many farmers are trained in modern farming methods, mushroom cultivation, poultry farming and agriculture. In order to continue this project, the sisters established a foundation called Krishi Vigyan Trust (KVT) a few years ago.

Eight sisters live in the community and are very active in visiting families in the surrounding villages, praying with them and bringing Holy Communion to the elderly and sick.

The sisters also take care of the new cemetery for sisters, which is located on the premises near the convent.
