Holy Cross Convent Assisi Bhawan, Sitapahar, 30.11. – 03.12.2024

In 2005, the Sitapahar community was divided into two communities and the new community was named Assisi Bhawan and is located on the plains, while the original community is on a small hill opposite the parish church.

In Assisi Bhawan we find a Hindi medium High School from Primary to 10th grade with over 850 students, 19 teachers, 4 sisters and 2 staff members. The new school building was opened in 2018 as the old building lacked the necessary space. The majority of the children come from poor families and from the Santhal tribe.

There are 320 girls of this school in the boarding school and there is not enough space as more children need accommodation as they live far away in the villages.

There is also a health centre on the premises where patients with various illnesses are treated. It is difficult to get a doctor, so the nurses are very busy.

In addition, they have also a small farm with various animals, vegetables and a few rice fields here.

The population in this part of the state of Jharkhand differs from the rest of the population in terms of culture and lifestyle. I had the opportunity to celebrate the rice harvest festival in the parish, which was very impressive.
