Holy Cross Community Hansqua

Hansqua Mission started on 17 January 1993 as response to the call of faith formation. It has a large migrant tribal Christian population from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Sisters visit villages, tea gardens. The Basic Christian Community program has revived the faith of the people. Hansqua Parish is considered as the most active parish in Bagdogra Diocese.

After some years the sisters felt the need to have a Hindi Medium primary School for the children around. At the request of the parents the Hindi Medium is changed into English Medium and at present there are more than 200 children studying from L.KG to class IV.

Sr. Teresa Dorjee being a social worker is fully engaged in the social action. There are 5 tuition centres today to assist the poor students. The main aim of the tuition centre is to give a good educational foundation to the students and to give the students ample opportunities to develop their talents.  Apart from this, the sisters are helping the poor people of the tea garden to avail government facilities. Hansqua community is very active in education and socio-pastoral work.
