Government Medical College and Hospital, Bettiah

GMC Hospital, Bettiah is one of the district hospitals of Bihar.  It has now a medical college too. Our foundress Blessed Mother Theresa wanted her sisters to be messengers of mercy and compassion, alleviating the pains of those afflicted in body and soul. Bettiah was stricken with various kinds of sicknesses, epidemics and natural calamities. The service of sisters was requested by King Edward and Dufferin Hospitals in 1915 and 1918. In 1961 the administration of King Edward and Dufferin Hospitals were combined under the title of Maharani Janki Kaur Hospital and the sisters began to live as a community in the quarter given by the hospital administration. They enjoyed the freedom to do many services for the patients especially the poor and neglected.  Doctors and patients had great trust in sisters.

In 2008, MJK Hospital underwent a significant transformation when it was converted into a medical college. The purpose behind this change was to expand the hospital’s capacity to train new generations of medical professionals while continuing to serve the healthcare needs of the community.

Two sisters are generously and lovingly taking care of the patients and mission has a great impact on the hospital, right from the beginning. One sister takes care of the house.
