General Visitation in Haniska

The sisters in the Haniska community joyfully awaited the time of General visitation. There are 17 sisters, most of them are retired and sick. They have contributed their best to the province in different roles in the past years. One of the young sisters is engaged in teaching in the schools and another sister is working in the office of the charitable project work run by Caritas.

The community is open to the needs of the people and the province. Recently two sisters were brought to this community as they are suffering of Cancer. Sr. Benjamina the superior of the community is also a nurse who accompanies the ill sisters for their treatment although the community sisters extend their helping hand in various needs. Sr. Savia suffering from Alzheimer’s is continuously accompanied by the sisters who take turns to look after her day and night.

Each sister tries to carry out the charism in different activities, like liturgical services in the church, programs for the youth and children, caring for the priests who stay in the same compound, and responsibly looking after the household activities. Some of the sisters are actively present for social care to the people at the old age home in the city. There is a good community feeling among the sisters, which they strengthen by regular prayers, recreation, etc. They are strengthened in acknowledging that the “sick and old sisters are a blessing in the community.”
