GENERAL VISITATION IN THE PROVINCE SLOVAKIA

From 27 January to 23 February 2025, the General Visitation will take place in the Province of Slovakia. Sr Marie-Marthe, Superior General, Sr Gabriele Schachinger, General Assistant and two General Councillors: Sr Sheeja Kolacheril and Sr Rahela Lacković will visit 150 sisters in 21 communities.

The aim of each visitation is to observe and get to know the everyday life of sisters and their environment, and to engage in dialogue and encounters. Wherever possible, the sisters will also be visited directly at their working places. It is also very important to experience the various places and areas of activity in their respective socio-cultural, political and religious contexts.

Province Slovakia

The first sisters came from Ingenbohl to Slovakia on 21 February 1865. The work of the sisters was very rewarding and many young women were inspired. The Province of Slovakia was founded in 1927.

The work of the sisters in the Province is very diverse. They are involved in social work, in hospitals, in educational work and take part in the life of the parishes. They walk with people, support families, lead various groups of children and young people and visit prisoners. Maria Theresia Scherer School of Nursing in Ružomberok is the only religious institution run by sisters.

On 14 September 2003, Sister Zdenka Schelingová was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Bratislava. Many people in Slovakia and far beyond venerate Sr. Zdenka. This veneration is growing. Many contacts have been established through Sr. Zdenka: to people of different age groups and to parishes that request relics of Sr. Zdenka and information about her.
