Superior General Sr. Marie-Marthe Schönenberger and General Councillor Sr. Dorothee Halbach, were welcomed with warmth and joy in Fribourg on 24 February. During the six-days visit, the sisters showed great interest in the topics of the congregation despite their age and participated actively in the individual sessions that had been prepared.
The Schönberg location in Fribourg comprises the community of the Holy Cross Sisters of Ingenbohl, which currently has 22 sisters, five sisters from two other religious communities, and a lay woman who also lives in this community. In everyday life, they share their lives and enrich each other.
In addition to regular prayer and liturgy times, the sisters also come together for other activities, such as watching the news, sharing the Bible, playing games, and doing gymnastics.
Schönberg also includes the cantonal establishment for the care of members of religious orders in Fribourg (ISRF), which provides a home for 32 elderly women and men. Ten of our sisters currently live there. The Province of Switzerland owns the building. Another sister lives in a house that offers a protected environment.
In February 2019, the merger of the two provinces, the Province of Western Switzerland and the Mother Province, was completed. Since then, both former Provinces exist under the new name: Province of Switzerland.
