Nová Huta (Şinteu) Community

The community in Nová Huta in Romania was founded in 1997. The village is located in a beautiful, hilly landscape in the west of Romania, which was largely settled by Slovaks in the 16th century, but also includes Romanians and Hungarians. This mission is therefore associated with a linguistic challenge.

The mission of the community includes the social-pastoral and catechetical ministry carried out by the three sisters. One sister works as a nurse in a small outpatient clinic with the lady doctor, they also make home visits together and she is involved in the parish with the choir. A second sister is a catechist and teaches religion in 7 different schools in the neighbourhood. She also looks after her sick mother, who lives nearby. The third sister teaches children who have difficulties with their normal lessons, some of whom first have to learn to read and write, and she also supports a woman, who is learning to speak again after a stroke. The sisters also look after a socially disadvantaged man who lives alone in the neighbourhood and make family visits.
