Floods in Kerala

Flood in India

Kerala experiences the worst flood in 2018 after the one which occurred in 1924, in nearly a century. The floods are a result of the unusually high amount of monsoon rainfall from June onwards.
The flooding has affected hundreds of villages.  More than 60 thousand houses are damaged or destroyed or washed away.  As per the present calculations more than 186 people have been killed due to flooding. The number of missing people may increase the causalities. Nearly 200 thousand people are displaced. Round about 10 thousand kilometers of roads are destroyed.  More than 150 thousand people have been shifted to 1200 relief camps that have been opened at various locations.

Our sisters have also opened the doors of their schools to give shelter to people who left their flooded houses. The sisters try to reach the people in various villages with essential provisions.
Viele Kreuzschwestern stammen aus Kerala. Auch ihre Familien sind von dieser grossen Katastrophe betroffen.
A lot of Holy Cross Sisters hail from Kerala. Their families are also affected by this disaster.

In this situation it is necessary to trust in God`s help and various support through people, who wish to express their solidarity.
