The father returns home – this is the title given by the sisters to the report about the handing over of the mortal remains of Father Theodosius from Chur to Ingenbohl.in the year 1906.
The father returns – we, too, want to use these words when writing on the conclusion of the Jubilee Year of his 150th death anniversary.
During the Jubilee Year the soles of shoes, which Father Theodosius wore when he tirelessly went around “on the roads of the world” and which he also wore when he was laid to rest in the coffin, were traveling to all the provinces and vicariates, where the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross in the here and now are trying to live and work in his spirit. Along with them went a so- called “passport”.
Now both these treasures came back. The last stop of the journey is the Mother Province. In a solemn Mass the Provincial Superior, Sr. Marie-Marthe Schönenberger, handed over the Shoe Soles and Passport to the Generalate archivist. She represented the members of the General Leadership, who are away for visitation.
For a few days now, both the shoes and the passport will be at the grave of Father Theodosius near the entrance to the Convent Church. Many a sister dwells in silence near the father who has returned home, and connects with our sisters throughout the world who have recorded in the Passport their own experiences made in the footsteps of Father Theodosius.
