Community in Jesuheim, Girlan

At the end of March 2023, the Sisters moved from the Marienherberge in Merano to Jesuheim in Girlan. It was not an easy farewell to their familiar home, moving to an unfamiliar environment and not to another house of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. In the meantime, most of the Sisters have come to terms with this still-new situation.

The house is surrounded by vineyards and apple orchards in the beautiful countryside around Bolzano in South Tyrol.

Jesuheim is a traditional social welfare institution. Since January 2013, it has been run by the St. Elisabeth Foundation, to which it was handed over by the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul (Mother house in Zams). The home is divided into sections for the care of the elderly and people with disabilities and currently accommodates 130 residents.

Sixteen of these are our Sisters of the Holy Cross and eight are Sisters of Charity. Together they celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours and daily Holy Mass.

Our sisters perform a wide variety of small services and also regard the apostolate of prayer as their mission.
