The journey to Hegne first took us to Herten Rheinfelden. We were warmly welcomed by the three sisters and the board of St. Josef’s House, Mrs. Ackermann and Mr. Kunde, and attended an impressive Eucharistic Celebration on Euthanasia Day. After the Eucharistic Celebration, wooden doves were hung on a memorial stone to commemorate the many people who were killed in Herten during the Second World War.
St. Josefshaus in Herten was established with the purpose of providing people with severe mental and physical disabilities with permanent, dignified care and a protected living environment.
The foundation is an example of a project that arose from social responsibility, church commitment and great trust in community support. It forms the origin of an institution whose objective from the outset was to provide protection, care and dignity to people in particularly difficult life situations.
We arrived in Hegne at 15 :45 and had time for a piece of cake before the General Visitation officially opened with a festive vespers.
After dinner, the Sisters of the Provincial Leadership met with the General Leadership for a first meeting.
