Ambikapur School Community

In 1964 two sisters began their mission in Ambikapur, opening a dispensary and a small hostel for at the time 14 students. This small seed developed into an almost unimaginably vast centre of education and formation. Here we find all levels of education from kinder garden to primary, secondary and middle school, both in English and Hindi medium. At the moment, there are more than 7000 children and students attending these schools. About 300 young girls, hailing from different denominations, live in the hostel. There they are accompanied and supported by our sisters in their process of growing up.
In 1985 a college for young women was founded in Ambikapur, in addition to our existing institutions. By now this college offers the possibility of undergraduate and postgraduate studies to more than 1500 students, more than 500 of them live in the hostel connected to the college.
Moreover, we also find an office of assistance and coordination of social work on the same campus. Sr. Christi coordinates the social work for three districts, comprising many villages with hundreds of animators for the about 200 self-help groups, which follow various objectives.
A small home for the elderly sisters of the province is part of this community as well. It is named «Ashirvad» which means “blessing”.  These sisters support the concentrated efforts of this vast institution by their prayerful presence. At present three candidates share the life of this community of 25 sisters.
Large vegetable gardens, paddy and corn fields, and several cows add to what is daily needed to provide sufficient food in the various kitchens.
