25 years of Beatification of Mother Maria Theresa

On 29 October 1995, Pope John Paul II beatified Mother Maria Theresa Scherer in Rome. Mother Maria Theresa Scherer was co-foundress of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. From 1857 to 1888 she was the Superior General of the rapidly developing institute. The life of Mother Maria Theresa was characterised by her creative energy, patience and ingenuity to work for life in its many facets.

Mother Maria Theresa, if you were here now in the midst of the pandemic,

then you would encourage us, despite the current restrictions to “do what lies in our power day by day”;

then your confidence would set us on fire and strengthen our confidence to do ” much for God and with God “;

then you would invite us, despite all the uncertainties and emerging fears, “to trust in him from whom all strength comes.”;

then you would spend time with us in prayer in the certainty that ” praying in community has great power.”
