A Circle Closes

On 19 November 1927, the first Provincial house of the Province of Slovakia was built in Podunajske Biskupice. The beginning of the new Province was marked by great poverty, nevertheless the number of Sisters in the Provincial house grew steadily.  On 22 August 1950, the Provincial house was dissolved and the Sisters were deprived of everything they had built up over so many years.

In 1968 (“Prague Spring”) the Sisters returned to Slovakia. The buildings in Podunajske Biskupice were then used for tuberculosis patients.

In 2017, long after the end of the communist regime, the buildings in Podunajske Biskupice were returned to the sisters. On 19 November 2018, construction and renovation began for the elderly sisters. The house, Marianum, which was planned with this intention in 1947, was actually being built now.

Despite the pandemic, it was completed in 2021, and the sisters from Cerová were able to move in several phases into Marianum in Podunajske Biskupice this year.
