ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE BOOK-PRESENTATION
Driven by the Need of the Time – Letters and Writings of Maria Theresia Scherer and Theodosius Florentini
This work concerns the recorded writings of the Holy Cross Sister Maria Theresia Scherer (1825-1888) and the Capuchin Priest Theodosius Florentini (1808-1865).
In the year 1852 Sister Maria Theresia Scherer, the first General Superior of the Ingenbohl Sisters, beatified in 1995 by Pope John Paul II, and the Capuchin Priest from Müstair/Grisons, laid the foundation to the Franciscan Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross in Ingenbohl (Switzerland), where the Motherhouse is situated since 1856. Today the congregation is active around the world.
The collection of source material will be published as monograph in the Helvetia Franciscana 45 (2016) on September 5th, 2016.
This illustrated book of 612 pages is the outcome of six years’ critical research work by the workgroup appointed by the General Administration in 2010.
An extensive record of writings of the two founding personalities were gathered, compiled, transcribed and scientifically evaluated, covering the years from 1845 to 1888. The study brings light to the phases of the beginning, expansion and unfolding of the Congregation of Ingenbohl. The topics of the 19th century continue to have their importance and timeliness in the 21st century.
The members of the workgroup are: Markus Ries (Professor for Church History, University of Lucerne) and Christian Schweizer (Provincial Archivist Swiss Capuchins Lucerne), as well as the Holy Cross Sisters Hildburg Baumgartner (Gemünden a.M./Germany), Finka Tomas (Đakovo/Croatia), Agnes Maria Weber (Ingenbohl/Switzerland) and Lucila Zovak (Ingenbohl/Switzerland).
