Holy Cross Convent in Chainpur 06. – 09. November 2025

Chainbur is located in an economically underdeveloped area, where people live mainly from rice cultivation and what their own farms produce. During the visit to Chainpur, there was also an opportunity to speak with Bishop Linus Pingal Ekka of the Diocese of Gumla. He is very grateful for the work of the sisters in Chainpur.

Since 1994, the sisters have been running a small hospital at the Holy Cross Lievens Health Center, which is mainly visited by Christian members of the Oraon tribe. The hospital has its own laboratory, radiography, and ultrasound facilities. Many of the patients are treated on an outpatient basis, while more serious cases are taken by the hospital ambulance to the nearest hospital, which is about three hours away.

As alcohol abuse is very high in this region, the sisters also opened an alcohol withdrawal unit in 2012. In order to cater for both alcoholic patients and all other patients, the building is currently being extended and enlarged. The sisters hope that this will enable them to provide even better care and support for these often very young people.

Through training courses and lectures, the sisters try to educate the people in the villages and make them aware of the dangers of alcohol abuse.
