The Provincial Superior bought the building plot from the parish priest Josef Flotzinger in 20.09.1901. He insisted on the construction of a large hospital. On 29 October 1903, the new modern hospital was consecrated by the bishop. The chapel was dedicated to ‘Mary, Salvation of the Sick’. Many of the sisters worked in the hospital all their lives to maintain the hospital and care for the patients.
The hospital reform in 2007 led to a merger of the hospitals in Wels and Grieskirchen in order to secure the location and guarantee optimal care for patients in the region. Today, the Wels-Grieskirchen Hospital is the largest religious hospital in Austria. The number of sisters has decreased considerably to 26 and the overall activity has also decreased. The community of sisters lives in the oldest building of the hospital and can use the infrastructure, for which they are very grateful.
The sisters prioritize their everyday tasks and are mainly involved in the apostolate of prayer. Several sisters are on assignment, as they also provide services for the hospital. It is the wish of the directorate that the sisters are present in the hospital and thus set an example for the religious hospital.
