The big community of sisters gives the hospital an atmosphere of human dignity and life. The hospital has a long history. Already in 1893 it was founded by a British missionary society. Before the Holy Cross Sisters took it over in 1967, it has evolved into a women’s hospital (maternity hospital).
Today Tripolia hospital has 250 beds, apart from the main maternity ward, there are many medical disciplines with appropriate diagnostic and surgical departments. At the same time here is an important social center with a professional department for hearing impaired children including a school for these children. In addition, many children come from the surrounding area for non-formal education.
A special form of preventive medicine and the care for mothers and infants is the ‘mobile clinic’ which reaches out to the people in the villages. For 40 years Midwifery training is given here and since 15 years nurses’ training. Together with many employees, many sisters are in the service of the sick of all classes, cultures and religions, in the service of the poor, the suffering and those in need of help. Even AIDS and tuberculosis are among the many daily realities and challenges.
Extreme long lasting heat and low temperatures in winter makes it very hard for the People.
The photos give an impression of the versatile life in this community.
