In the State of Arunachal Pradesh

This Federal State borders largely on the countries of Bhuttan, China and Myanmar in the East. It reaches from the snow-covered mountains in the north to the plains of the Brahmaputra-valley in the south. The difference in altitude is between 50 and 7000 meters above sea-level. Itanagar, the capital, is 530 meters above sea-level. It is a meeting point of different ethnic groups, cultures, traditions, life-styles and religions.

The youngest community in Naricamp – existing since March 2014

Sr. Marija Brizar and Sr. Elsit Ampattu were together with the sisters for a few days.

Bishop John Thomas of Itanagar asked for the Holy Cross Sisters to work with the poorest of the poor, to work in the areas of health, education and pastoral care and to support the development work of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit who are living in the place for the last 12 years.

This new community of three sisters lives at a distance of 260 kilometers from Balipara in the State of Assam. The lack of infrastructure in this area, requires an extraordinary adjustment from these sisters.  Sr. Marija has already reported briefly of the journey to Naricamp.

Starting from Assam, it took 12 hours by jeep, along narrow streets full of potholes made it especially difficult because of the plentiful rain. It seems that such “streets” are not without danger. Luckily, we had an experienced driver who proved himself as a real “driver magician”.

Sr. Marija writes about the mission in Naricamp: “It is a mission in the literal sense. The people there had been baptized many years ago, and then simply left to themselves … A new Evangelization, together with love for the people, will require time and patience and much dedication. The nature is very beautiful. It is a landscape of mountains and hills. Only here and there, we can find some plains. One can find many varieties of orchids“.
