125 years Holy Cross Sisters in India

The provinces of India celebrated 125 years of the arrival of the Holy Cross Sisters on the Indian subcontinent. On 22nd November, 1894, the first four European Holy Cross Sisters arrived in Bettiah, in

the state of Bihar. The ‘Jubilee Year’ was solemnly opened on 19th February, 2019 in the Chapel of St. Theresa in Bettiah, the place of origin, and ended there on 22nd November, 2019.

Ten Sisters from each Indian Province and Sister Elsit from the Generalate were invited to participate in the closing ceremony. Several bishops graced the closing Ceremony in order to express their appreciation that the initial motto of the Holy Cross Sisters, “The need of the time is the will of God” has achieved great things and is still alive and present in the commitment of the sisters throughout India.
