At the top of the hill stands the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, an important Marian place of pilgrimage.

The sisters’ community at Svatý Hostýn was founded in 1962. During the totalitarian period, the sisters initially served in a social welfare institution for mentally disabled people. In early 1986, when they had to leave Svatý Hostýn, the local parish priest obtained permission for them to remain and continue caring for the pilgrimage church and the sacristy.

In 1990, spiritual administration of Svatý Hostýn was entrusted to the Society of Jesus. The sisters’ ministry subsequently expanded to include managing the kitchen for the growing Jesuit community. A significant change occurred last autumn, when the Jesuits departed after 35 years of service, and responsibility for the pilgrimage site was transferred to the diocese.

At present, three sisters serve at Svatý Hostýn, working in the basilica and supporting the pilgrimage.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”23790,23792,23794,23796,23798,23800,23802,23804,23806,23808,23810,23812″ css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[11,18

post-23814","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news-en","category-visitations
["GET
