The language is Nepali. The British secured Darjeeling from the King of Sikkim in 1835 and developed the area. Large areas were turned into tea gardens.<\/p>\n<p>A rapid development came about: Cities and large buildings came up; the population grew up rapidly and settled to an altitude of more than 2000 meters above sea level. The region became well known and attractive for tourists.<\/p>\n<p>Siliguri.<\/p>\n<p>Siliguri is the second largest city in West Bengal with rapid development in the area of medicine and educational opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Our Holy Cross Sisters are here since 1984.
