They had been brought here in the 19th century to work in the teagardens, where they had to undergo harsh treatment. Even to this day, many of the inhabitants are daily laborers in the teagardens, their standard of living has hardly improved. They remain very poor, feel inferior, segregated and have lost their identity.

Jesuits were the first missionaries in this area. In the year 2000, they requested the help of sisters for this mission. Their task was, corresponding to the need of the time: Educational activities, health care, socio-pastoral work and care of young girls in a boarding school. It was all about helping the people to experience anew their human dignity.

In the beginning, the sisters, too, lived in a mud-house like the other people. First of all, a dispensary was established. Since 2013, the sisters live in their own convent. Great challenges to this day are: the widely scattered houses of the people, water problems, infectious diseases, illiteracy and material poverty.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”1737,1738,1739,1740″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Jesuits were the first missionaries in this area.
