Theresa Niketan, Balidih

The community in Balidih, called Holy Cross Theresa Niketan, was started in 1989 as an extension of the Holy Cross School, Balidih. Thirteen years later, Theresa Niketan was established as a new community.

Sisters run a centre for social development activities in the surrounding villages, with a particular focus on empowering women. In this community, novices and young sisters also had the opportunity to gain mission experience. In 2024, the National Council for Handloom and Handicraft Development in New Delhi launched a fashion design training programme. Currently, 100 women and girls are participating in this programme.

In the villages of Kurminih and Nayagora, the sisters run two schools for about 100 children aged three to six. At the parish, they are involved in catechesis and work with a women’s group. They also visit elderly and sick people in the villages.
