Holy Cross Community, Tinconma

Tinconma is a remote village with a population of about 5,000, comprising various tribes and castes. Among them are around 160 Christian Santal families, known for their vibrant celebrations, traditional dances, and harvest festivals.  The illiteracy remains a significant challenge, and the caste system heavily influences social interactions. People depend on agriculture and animal husbandry. Social issues such as child marriage, alcoholism, and superstition continue to affect the community.

The community was established in 1986 with the mission of evangelization and faith formation in local villages. It comprises of five sisters who are actively involved in teaching and pastoral care. Currently, they serve 300 students from grades 1 to 8.  Socio-Pastoral apostolate is active. Sisters visit the families, give  family counseling, teach catechism, visit the sick and pray for them.
