Arrival in Brazil and the first days

The flight from Zurich via Lisbon to San Salvador took off an hour late. As we were flying into the night, we were able to enjoy the sea of lights over the Brazilian metropolis of San Salvador and happily set foot on Brazilian soil. Our fellow sisters gave us a warm midnight welcome. And we immediately had our first experience of the rapid change in weather. Suddenly, we experienced a heavy downpour lasting several minutes – and then the sky was clear again.

On Tuesday, we visited the Vicarariate house Casa Maria Teresa. The sisters who are in leadership  and responsible for the administration of the vicariate live here. Right next door is the house St. Joseph, where our elderly and sick sisters live and are cared for. The small garden is a small reflection of the fertility of this area: acerola, coconuts, bananas and lemons thrive in the garden, as well as a small maize patch and lettuce. The various orchids hanging from the trees everywhere are beautiful.

During our two-day stay, we had discussions with the leadership team. We learned interesting and important things about politics, the economy, society and the church in Brazil. Equipped with this information, the general visitation now begins with a visit to the sisters in Itapeaçu, in the Amazon region.
