70 years of mission in Taiwan

On November 1, All Saints’ Day, our sisters celebrated 70 years of mission in Taiwan. We offer our heartfelt congratulations and wish them God’s blessing for the future. Sr. Gabriele Schachinger, Assistant General, participated in this special anniversary on behalf of the General Administration.

Father Theodosius once said, “God leads us to different places to work for His glory and for the good of humanity.” This was also the case on May 5, 1955, when the first four sisters from Switzerland arrived in Taiwan, in the district of Taitung, at the request of the Immenseer Fathers, with whom they had already worked on the mainland. For 70 years, the sisters have been working for the good of the people in a wide variety of areas (care for the elderly, care for children, the elderly, and the disabled, catechesis, pastoral care in parishes and prisons).

Bishop Philipe Huang Chau-Ming, who presided over the festive service, praised the work and witness of the sisters, who left everything behind to serve God and humanity.

A colorful cultural program was offered to the approximately 600 participants, during which long-time employees were also honored.

The celebration was, of course, also connected with the anniversary year of the 200th birthday of our founder, Mother M. Theresia Scherer, which ended on October 31 in Ingenbohl, strengthening the bond with the motherhouse.
